About the role

The role of the UN Assistant Secretary General, Famine Prevention and Response Coordinator, was created to lead and organize a cohesive system-wide response to rising food insecurity and the risk of famine, recognizing that the fight against global hunger is a priority for the international community.

Core
Responsibilities

The Coordinator works closely with UN agencies, governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the private sector and other actors to:

  1. Help scale up operations quickly in countries facing the highest risk of famine by strengthening system-wide coordination.
  2. Identify and help develop long-term solutions to improve community-resilience.
  3. Raise global awareness to mobilize support and funding.
  4. Help unlock financial resources from traditional and non-traditional donors.
