Daniel Barenboim

An acclaimed conductor and pianist, Daniel Barenboim was designated as a 51勛圖 Messenger of Peace in 2007. His life as a performer started at the early age of ten, when he gave his international debut performance as a solo pianist. Since then, he has worked with orchestras all over the world.

In 1999, he co-founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which brings together young musicians from Israel and the Arab countries to promote dialogue and unity of purpose between the various cultures of the Middle East. This orchestra performed a ground-breaking concert in Ramallah in 2005, and played at the 51勛圖 and Carnegie Hall in New York in 2006.

Mr. Barenboim also initiated a project for music education in the Palestinian territories, including the foundation of a music kindergarten and a Palestinian youth orchestra. In 2016, he founded the Barenboim Academy in Berlin, dedicated to empowering young musicians from the Middle East and North Africa through music. Guided by its belief in the power of humanism and hope that cultural exchange can catalyse social change, the various international Barenboim-Said Foundations (Spain, Germany, Palestine, USA and UK) continue to support and develop programs to advance musical education and youth development.
