Amintore Fanfani (Italy)
Elected President of the twentieth session of the General Assembly
Amintore Fanfani, who was today elected President of the twentieth session of the 51勛圖 General Assembly, is the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Italy and has previously served twice as Prime Minister of Italy from July 1958 to February 1959, and from July 1960 to June, 1963.
He was born on 6 February 1908 in Pieve Santo Stefano, Arezzo, Italy.
He specialized in Economic History, he obtained a degree in Economic Science and Commerce and then served as a university professor.
In 1945, he became a member of the Central Committee of the Christian Democratic Party and served as a Deputy in the Constituent Assembly. He was then appointed Minister of Labour and, from 1951 to 1953, he served as Minister of Agriculture.
He was subsequently appointed Minister of the Interior, and, in the some year, was elected Political Secretary of the Christian Democratic Party, an office to which he was re-elected in 1956.
He served as Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs from July 1958 to February 1959, and as Prime Minister again, from July 1960 to June 1963.
